This course is designed for healthcare workers who support service users living with Dementia. It has been mapped to the Dementia Training Standards Framework and supports the Dementia Alliance Dementia Statements. It also includes the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends movement as I am a volunteer with the charity. This means each attendee will also be given a Dementia Friends badge at the end of the session. This course provides an overview of dementia, we also offer a more advanced dementia course amongst other specialist topics such as nutrition and hydration for those living with dementia.
Course objectives
By the end of this course those attending should be able to:
- Describe what dementia is
- Identify the different types of dementia and how common they are
- Identify the signs and symptoms of dementia
- Explain what it is like to live with symptoms of dementia
- Describe the importance of early diagnosis
- Explain how dementia is diagnosed and treated
- Explain how we can enable people with dementia to live as well as possible
- Describe how to effectively communicate with people living with dementia
- Identify where to access further information, advice and support
